Cicatricial Alopecia is a form of hair loss characterized by the destruction of the hair follicle cells.  Where in Androgenetic Alopecia, the hair follicle goes dormant and doesn't produce cosmetically significant hair but the follicle is still alive, in Cicatricial Alopecia the follicle itself is killed off and replaced by scar tissue.   This article describes Primary Cicatricial Alopecia.
